The project

The EAThink project begun in 2015 (European Year of Development) with the objective of enhancing European students’ and teachers’ critical understanding and their active engagement on global development challenges, focusing on sustainable food systems and smallholder farming.
Implementing partners, including development NGOs, civil society organizations, associations of local authorities and major foundations, worked with European youth as well as with educational professionals and institutions, promoting in the formal education system the adoption of learner-centred and experiential Global Education patterns. The focus was on concrete practices and models that contribute to sustainable development, aiming at the set-up of multi-disciplinary Global Education pathways suitable to be integrated in European primary and secondary schools. This included workshops for students, teachers tutoring, exchange visits at European and International level, school competitions and awards, school-led communication campaigns, public exhibitions, experiential learning activities, set-up of school gardens, trainings on social media and web tools, community involvement initiatives and the development of educational apps.

The event

The international seminar "Raise your Voice, DEAR!" was meant as final capitalization and exchange event within the EAThink project, involving 200 participants from 13 different countries and three plenaries, an international round table with representatives from 6 European countries, 8 workshops and 4 field visits in Milan.

The meeting was also built with a wider scope, as an opportunity for reflection and exchange of good practices on Education for Global Citizenship (ECG).

The event was organized by ACRA in collaboration with CISV Onlus, CoLomba and Mediateca Santa Teresa, with the contribution of the European Union, Luigi Veronelli Permanent Seminary and the Cariplo Foundation, under the High Patronage of the European Parliament and under the patronage of the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation, the Metropolitan City of Milan, the Municipality of Milan and the Pubblicità Progresso Foundation. The initiative was also part of the Festival of social communication and the Festival Dire Fare Educare of the City of Milan.

On Wednesday 8th of November, the event opened with a lecture on Global Education perspectives and challenges, held by Professor Massimiliano Tarozzi, from the University of Bologna. Followed by a first session of work structured in 3 parallel working groups per constituencies. Each group discussed focusing on the identification of priorities and key challenges for the achievement of SDG4.7.

On Thursday 9th of November, the participants were divided into 3 parallel working groups per priority and challenges identified during the first session. The working groups’ composition was based on best practice shared during a preliminary phase. In the afternoon, was held “Raise Your Voice, Global Citizenship!”, a round table on the State of the Art of Global Citizenship Education in Europe, with a comparison between institutions and civil society across Europe on strategies, policies and approaches for the revitalization of Global Citizenship in schools. And in conclusion, Valentina Rizzi, Head of Education and Global Citizenship - ACRA Foundation, reported a synthesis of the process and the reflections and proposals emerged during the working groups.
